Not to be the one who always cares what others thing about me, but… I can’t help but believe this is just another way that we show the rest of the world what selfish, irrational, greedy assholes Americans are. We’re too good for public health advice. We can single handedly proliferate a fatal, global pandemic because we deserve to go to Chili’s after spending six weeks in our air conditioned houses drinking wine. I understand the profound, crippling economic effects this pandemic is having — and will have — on all of us. I also understand that it will be disproportionately devastating. But wars also have devastating and disproportionate impacts. Our abysmal public education system has devastating and disproportionate impacts. For me, the American government’s role in all this is to listen to health experts, heed their advice, and then build an economic structure that allows us to support our most vulnerable citizens while doing what must be done to stop the spread. Where is our collective good? Why are we so damn selfish? RANT OVER.
